A reflash of old works …

It has been quite awhile since I last pick up my drawing pens. By chance, I trace and bump into my old personal web site (last updated in 1996 at fortune-city!), and recover some of the comics and caricature works which I created back in 1996.

some caricature works…

and the rest (including comics) in this gallery

Our Own Blog …Humming Bird Love nest

6 years after marriage and our own blog has been created finally!!!

Our New Begining
Time has pass real fast, blink of an eye, we have divded into the year 2007. Life has evolved slowly. As days passes we see things with a different perspective. Main resolution for the Year 2007 is to stay happy. Life is short, we have witness a good friend whom have left for the kingdom of heaven, friends whom have claim to be buddies turn nasty when real help is needed. Guess this is just some facts of life, so why take it so hard. As long as one is happy, it would be the most fufilling satisfaction that one can ever achieve.

Money is not everything, and definately unable to buy everything. Without it one cannot survive, too much of it will make one greedy and evil. Enough to pass days through without having to worry for money is the best solution. But which person whom is living in Singapore does not worry about Money!!! haha.

Okay all for today…. Just trying out the new blog… HAPPY 2007!!!

Review of Treo 750 versus iPAQ 6965

Just had a chance to try out Treo 750 at Funan few hours ago. Despite the short trial, I immediately feel that the keyboard is a worthy one, unlike when I tried out Sony Ericsson P990i previously.

Compare to my iPAQ 6965, the phone feel heavier and thicker, but slimmer. The form factor is just nice imho, for those who want to have phone form factor but ppc phone capability. Few things I would compare based on what I need, so the following are just my personal opinon;

qwerty keyboard

the buttons feel good, admittedly equally good, if not better than my ipaq 6965. One hand operation is better than my 6965, mainly because of its slimmer form factor, therefore you are able to hold the phone comfortably than 6965. Two hand operation, is okay, except that the buttons are alittle tad close to each other. Not really an issue, vis-a-vis SE P990. I tried typing a long message, as I do read and compose/reply emails frequently using my 6965. It’s not too bad, but I can feel my hand starting to feel cramp after writing a short paragraph. Contrasting to my 6965, the latter has better keyboard ergonomic.

Ergonomics

Palm did quite a fair bit of customisation to make the phone more ergonomic than some of the ‘generic’ ppc phones. It appears that the keyboard is designed to be able to navigate around, just like my 6965, without having to touch the screen. It doesn’t have the ‘tab’ button that 6965 does, which means you have to scroll your cursor down to the bottom so that the mouse focus will be on the tab before you can switch from tab to tab. Still, it’s better than having to poke the screen.

A couple of software are bundled to improve the user friendliness, e.g. the today plug-in for contact, and the menu softkey. Having said, the main ergonomic comes from the keyboard, and further convinced myself that qwerty keyboard is a must for all my future ppc devices.

3G

I was told that the current firmware doesn’t support 3.5G or HSDPA yet, although Palm has indicated that the new firmware is available in a months time.

Bluetooth & Audio playback

Have not tried playing audio over the A2DP. But given that it’s MS based stack, I won’t put high hope on it. Furthermore, the device doesn’t come with default bass/treble setting, which means I have to depend on media player’s software equaliser to drive the playback, not important if you are using wired/bluetooth headset, but surely will be missed if you hook it to your car headunit or house amp system.

Lack of WIFI and GPS

While I don’t really use much of WIFI in my 6965, I do use it at home to stream media files from my home media server. GPS, is useful when I am in Singapore and travel. For these two missing components, there’s alternative in terms of getting an external card/device to pair with the Treo, but nothing beats having the component ready to be activated on demand, without worrying that you have not brought along with you for a particular occassion. There’s pros and cons for a convergence device versus best of all breeds, but for me, I am definitely looking at the former, especially the total cost of ownership for Treo will be $1500 or more (if I have to buy wifi card and gps receiver)

All in all, I think Treo 750 is a worthy phone to consider, in my opinion. Not Dopod 838PRO, not Eten 600 reloaded or Mios A700, but Treo 750. However, because of the high price tag, and lack of the features I mentioned, it’s not a straight forward decision for me to ditch my ipaq 6965 to Treo 750. Still, if you ask me, between the two, the key differentiator will be 3G versus Convergence. These two factors, should be able to help a potential buyer to clear up his confusion. If after considering the two factors, and the buyer is still confused, it means that keyboard-based ppc phone (at least) like Treo 750 and iPAQ 6965 are not suitable for him grin.gif sneaky.gif

Internet communication & leadership.. food for thought

I must confess, I have never been a PR man, or for that matter, communication expert. My communication sucks, neither am I eloquent in my speech, nor was I charismatic like my CEO when I talk to my people. Yet interestingly, I have triggering thoughts on areas that are not my forte recently, and it is about communication and leadership in the internet.

I remember, many eons ago, when internet first started in 1994, I was so amaze about how message get sends across to the other party, at amazing speed, relative to how informations can transferred over conventional postal means. And when BBS started to create a rave then, and internet was tipped to be the medium to bring everybody in the world together, virtually, create the next wave of information-exchange, that something physical medium is unable to achieve then.

From then till now, I observed that internet has changed, or improved dramatically, with all the high speed access and backbone technology. But one thing remains unchange, that's human behaviour over the internet.

Human being, being the emotional animal, remains to be emotional in their response, offline & online, be it in a happy or conflict exchange. No doubt, communicating behind a box gives a person ample time to stay composed while engaging in conversation versus face-to-face interactions, but the reality is, internet is slowly becoming another confrontational ground, and even more destructive than a conflict happening in a physical medium.

Why is that so? The saying goes human being's mouth react faster than
his brain, but internet induces human being's finger and brain to react more deadly than just the mouth alone. Ok, it's not suggestive, but think about it.

Words kill. What your mouth gush out are just emotional garbage. But imagine what happens when your brain had the chance to think, and your finger, on behalf of your mouth, ejects sacrastic words that are deadly and destructive.

Years after years, from the simple text-based BBS forum, to a first web-based online forum discussion, to a dynamic yet feature-pack forum software, forum in the software technolgoy world has grown by leaps and bounds. But human interactions over the forum, by and large, remains unchange. Mind you, this has nothing to do with culture, for I am dead sure that this happens everywhere in the world, be it in a “Free speech is king” North America, or “Talk in public and you will be shut off” Singapore.

It leads to the point, (I must confess again, I am a lousy writer, who has to write a long story just to make my point), that internet has become a double-edge sword to effective communication. It has made information exchange more readily available and convenient, it has also allow trigger-happy but destructive messages to create a negative impact much faster and easier than before, in a lightspeed fashion.

How many times do one digest the information that they received, infer & clarify (than deduce and conclude) before coming to a conclusion? Many of times, be it online or offline, people's response is always reacted based on past experience, negatively or positively, without further processing. We call it bio-react. In some instances, such reaction is socially acceptable, but in many instances, it creates alot of conflicts, and when the tension grows, the breakdown in conversation is just waiting to be happen, just like a rubber band waiting to be snapped while stretching. And with internet, all these are just accelerated, like anything else.

I am sure there are always people whose mindset is revolving around “I don't give a damn about the conflict or breakdown”. But are we so selfish that we just want to get our agenda across, at the expense of the cost of conversation? Well, the point I want to make here, my friend, is that such scenarios will always happen (until the day we are ALL socially responsible), and what differentiate one from another, is about his dynamic leadership quality, to stay above the hasty smoke, and continue to drive towards an authentic conversation, despite all the bio-reacted missiles flying around. That my friend, will be the people I feel we badly need in this forum.
