we got a robot to clean our house

Came across iRobot Roomba many years back, and were impressed by its ability then. Had recommended to many friends but I had been procrastinating to get one myself. Finally, I got it last week, while on business trip to Houston. Told myself, I need to be incentivised myself despite the 28 hours flight trip, so I bidded one at ebay for $260 USD, hand carried it back home! Continue reading

Travelling this week …

Thanks to the company’s travel policy, I have to travel the lowest fare flight available (ok, to be fair, any flight that’s no more than $300 than the cheapest available flight) and in the end, I have to take United Airline, stop over at Hong Kong and Chicago, before arriving at Houston, 27 hours after I left Singapore!

At Chicago, I decided to turn on my Touch Pro quickly to check out the BPL result. Thank goodness, Liverpool won 3-2 away against Manchester City, after being 2-0 down on half-time. That made my day anytime, and the flight fatigue was overshadowed by the joyous feeling.

At Houston, I went over to Hertz to collect the rented car. No “Never Lost” system this time round, again courtesy of company’s travel policy. Well, I was never prepared to ‘study’ the route to the hotel, especially considering how tired I will be after a long flight journey. I am sure my brain will need some guidance, and hence I had brought along my travelling car kit comprises of phone charger and cradle. After setting them up, and positioning my Touch Pro, I turned on the Garmin Mobile XT installed on my Touch Pro, and crossed my finger that I could get acquistion fix, fast. It didn’t disappoint me, thanks to the Quick GPS, as Garmin Mobile XT received the fix within a minute, and I manage to get my way to the hotel within 30 mins, with the usual familiar navigation guidance voice.

Touch Pro to my rescue again, thankfully.

pig internal organs delicacy

Known as Kway Chap in Singapore, it is essentially a delicacy made up of braised pork meat and internal organs such as pig stomach, pig intestines. It may sound gross to some, especially folks in the West, but to us, it’s simply a delicacy.

And my favorite haunt for this delicacy? A stall in a coffee shop located at Blk 92 Toa Payoh Lor 4. They used to operate from the hawker centre right beside the coffee shop though.

Wonders of Facebook

Facebook, may be just yet another social networking site, like Friendster, Multiply, etc to many people. Yet it had recently done something wonder for me. Through Facebook’s friends of friend, I found out one of my friends’ friend is my primary school buddy! Simply amazing!

Hack more

Yeah hack more. This  is the phrase that’s always found in the online games FPS (first person shooter) game like soldier front, where the kids will always cry and whine each time they got killed by their opponents.

But this has nothing to do with  that. In fact, the title may be irrelevant to what I am trying to share in this blog post. It just happened that recently, my nephew had commented that my blog is getting boring, it’s all about mobile phones, and nothing interesting.

Generation gap?

The truth is, few things I like to share next has to do with gadgets, again! Firstly, I had just sold my Samsung i780, in anticipation for the cool HTC Touch pro. Never in my life would I have imagined getting HTC product, as I sweared after seeing how horrible their after sales service were. In all honesty, those ‘ugly’ incidents were in the past, and HTC seems to have improved on their after sales service recently. But the deciding point has to be the coolness factor found in its latest flagship models. I’m still waiting, rather impatiently I must add, for Starhub to have it available on their shop, while its competitors like Singtel are already selling the model like hotcakes over the weekend 😦  Where art thou, Starhub?

Next, I have earlier created a utility to set the “ShowSim” registry so that the SIM card contacts will not appear in WM6 phones. Upon initial feedbacks, I have enhanced it so that it will always run in the background, as it was noted that some users had experienced that the setting got reset back after a period of usage. To stop it from running, just re-run the program again, and it will stop 🙂

Disclaimer: I have no physical WM phone with me to test out this version, but had been relying on emulator.

HideSim .. another Windows Mobile Professional Hack

imageresdll_i0045_0409.png

Was bored again, and perhaps irritated. Irritated by the fact that my Windows Mobile device always shows the sim card contacts (who store contacts on SIM card these days?) each time I soft reset the phone, despite carrying out the necessary registry edit to disable the display function. So end up, I created this small utility that will run at every start up, to turn off the “Show Sim” feature. Only applicable to Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional I think, since I don’t encountered such issue when using a Windows Mobile 6.0 standard.

Here’s the Hide Sim Utility

A new version of Hide Sim Utility is updated to allow you to run the program with a time argument. The argument parameter is to denote the program to wait for a certain number of minutes before executing the “hide sim” function. The default time out is 10 sec, but if you find that after a soft reset, you are still seeing the SIM card contacts, you can try to extend the time to 20 sec.

New toy for 3 months

Received an email from Starhub last week that I have been selected for the Mobile TV trial program. Wasted no time to collect the trial phone and took a quick video on the phone in action

More review of the phone and the service in a short while, have too many teleconferences to attend this week!

Reminiscence of the old days

Time flies. All it takes is for one to pause for a moment, to realize that.

I had wanted to convert all the hard copies of my old film photos into digital form, for a long time.  All this while I had been dragging my feet on this, because I know it will be a tedious scanning process given hundreds of photos I had on hand. Yesterday, I decided to start the conversion process, as I know it is just a matter of time, and sometimes you just need that cranked start …

Then I come across some of the photos taken in 1999. Taken just slightly less than a decade, I realize we appeared to be much more happier then. And looking at some of the photos, I rediscover a lot of things, why Kang has always been my favorite nephew, why I was attracted to yeez, etc.

Those were the days.
